DECEMBER 2007

lo

Feng Shui Design Newsletter
December 2007
Dear Fawn,

Feng Shui is all about living YOUR life in Balance.  This Holiday Season, we will be particularly challenged to do that because of some very powerful
planetary influences.  Read about Mars Retrograde and how to get the most from this otherwise difficult energy.

This letter is packed with good info, from how you can use the last few days of 2007 to benefit your tax situation to real feng shui tips to make Holiday meals more enjoyable.

As I look back so many things that I 'programmed' into  2007 actually happened!  In March I was invited to be on KDKA and we put together the hugely successful "Clear Your Clutter Challenge."   In August I was invited back again!  This year I will be creating even more fun for all of us, just wait and see.

I also did something very powerful. I studied with Denise Linn, one of the world's foremost Feng Shui experts.  Denise wrote the 2nd book on the planet on Feng Shui in the English Language.  My experience was amazing and what it has brought to my life and my practice is enormous and significant.  I am  now certified as a Soul Coach. (Check it out on my website...it'll be up very soon.)  It would be my pleasure to help you and your family or your business to release all the blocks in your life and your homes that prevent you from living your full glorious joy.

According to Feng Shui, Winter is a time for going deep inside.  You'll get more from your Holiday experience when you balance all that outgoing and boisterous energy with time for you:  rest, renew and rejuvenate to stay balanced, centered and happy.

My wish to you:  Have a beautiful. love-filled Holiday, a sacred Winter and a delicious life, day by day!

All my best,

Fawn

Tax-cutting time is ticking away

Check your tax situation before it's too late to act

Here's a very valuable letter from a  CPA I trust.   Use the link to access the tax planning letter.  Thanks David!
" To Our Clients and Friends:

As you probably know, major tax laws are enacted every year. There have been some significant changes for 2007. In particular, the IRS has announced that for 2008 the kiddie tax will apply to unearned income for children who are 19 or 24 for full time students.  Also, at this time the residential energy credit is set to expire at the end of 2007.  So if you are planning to purchase energy saving items (insulation, exterior doors furnace etc.) you should do so prior to the end of the year.  You may be familiar with some of the new tax rules, but now is a good time to see if there are any goodies for you, and, if so, what you need to be doing to take advantage of them. In addition to changes made by the new laws, other planning actions may be beneficial. Some planning ideas need to be implemented before year-end to be effective for this year. With that in mind, please click on this link to view this year's tax planning letter http://www.planningtips.com/4422/default.asp?Co_ID=133728&Tip_ID=4422

Should you have any questions or if we may be of assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to call.

Sincerely,

David M. Wilke

Ducks In A RowThe Big News from Mars Retrograde
Make a 2-year plan; Fight nice.
Now till Jan 30, get your plan in shape.
If you feel like someone has thrown a wet blanket on your life, or if your energy levels have drooped to make you want to stay home and be cranky, don't panic.  There's an astrological reason and a benefit to this time.

The Astrologers call it "Mars Retrograde in  Cancer" and you may have begun to feel the effects in early November...it will last until January 30, 2008.  This could see an intensifying of our feelings -- but resolution to difficult situations is not quickly forthcoming. Mars retrograde is like an undertow that can pull us into deep waters. Our progress may be unfolding in slow motion, even if events appear to be moving at a hectic pace. We may have lessons to learn about patience and personal power, although it will be harder to keep our thoughts quiet over the days ahead.

What's the good news?  This is great energy to use to get your 2-year strategic plan in place.

Here's more:

"There could be old hurts or concerns expressed by others due to prior defensive stances, and if we are feeling drained, it is most important to be open and above board in targeting specific needs in the moment while not getting deflected into what was, or should have been, or old stuck emotional turf battles.

We know we will have to reconsider the mental attitudes and perceptions that created recent decisions or old hurts. We will re-trace the ground we've covered the past 2 1/2 months but with an eye to redoing or undoing or getting clear about how to be strong, flexible, and courageous as we review and rethink recent beginnings. Relax, don't get wired by the reversals and slowing and generic touchiness, and see it as a chance to redo and rethink some things, preparing for a whole new life to come in 2008 when Mars goes direct."

Bottom line:  don't shrink from your anger, but use it positively to stand centered in what you care for; don't defend, just be.  Be nurturing and loving, and especially to yourself.

If you need help getting your 2-year plan together, call me.  We'll discover where you are and get you to where you want to be.

SantaLetterQuick Tips for A Delightful Holiday

With just a little focus and organizing YOU, you can breeze through AND have more fun than you thought possible.
If you find that you are harried and hurried and not enjoying those feelings (sometimes it is a LOT of fun to be frantic), this list will give you a few ideas to add some time and delete some scattered-ness from your life.

  1. PROGRAM YOUR DAY:  At the beginning of the day (or any event) see it going smoothly and effortlessly.  When you reprogram your thought patterns, you begin to draw to you the things that you need.  It seems magical, but "Any sufficiently advanced technology is usually indistinguishable from magic." (anon)   Write the script for your day, see yourself beautiful, happy, easily accepted and hold the feelings.  You will be amazed.

  2. PRIORITIZE EVENTS AND EFFORTS:  Make a list of all potential holiday events and activities.  Which ones bring you most joy?  Most Peace?  Most return on your time and energy investment?  Saying "NO" to things is not going away from those you love or respect, it is an act of personal power.  You'll have much more to give when you are fully centered, poised and present.  You will be giving yourself and the world a precious gift...You.

  3. MAKE A LIST:  This really helps to un-clutter your mind and keeps you on track.  Include time slots for rest and for fun.  Build in 15 minutes every 3-4 hours for unexpected things like phone calls, store jaunts, or just seeing a friend you didn't expect.

  4. OUT-SOURCE:  Your most precious resource is your time and feeling nature.  When you actually look at the amount of time you spend on a task, you may be surprised that your hourly rate might be less than minimum wage.  Decide what you really, really love to do, do that and delegate...once and for all and let it go.  You might be surprised how well things actually do go.

  5. KEEP LUXURY TIME AND FUN ON YOUR PRIORITY LIST:  Every day schedule and do something that will enliven your Spirit.  (after all, it's not called the "Rat Race of Christmas"...).   A warm cup of your favorite tea, saying NO to that extra load of laundry, looking for the morning star, smiling at yourself in the mirror.  Schedule some corn-y old fun: I guarantee you you'll have memories that make you smile.

  6. Lighten it Up!:   Bringing light into the darkness of Winter is what this time of year celebrates. Even if you don't decorate, bring out the candles and a few twinkles, or sit by a nice warm fire.  Soft, gentle light is what is most beneficial this season.

  7. Feng Shui Tips:
~ Keep the knives out of sight and remove the carving knives from dinner table; this will help keep arguments to a minimum.
~ A round or oval dining table gives the best energy for an enjoyable dinner.
~ Soften a square or rectangular table with a dining cloth.
~ Limit the amount of red THIS holiday, with all the extra emotional fire flying around, opt for soft gold, glowing blues or rich greens.
~  Allow for breathing room:  when adding your decor or any gifts, remove whatever else you can.  Patty Kraemer, of Kraemer Connect suggests:  "one thing in, and two things out!"  Clear all last year's clutter, donate all you can't or don't use, leave some things empty and open.  This will bring freshness and more light into your entertaining.

  8. REFLECT:  As each year comes to a close, it's always helpful to take some time to slow down, look back and evaluate.  Look back with gentle compassion; be soft, kind and clear.  Ask yourself some good questions:  What was I trying to accomplish this year and did I do that?  What did I do best this year?  How did I feel when I was true to myself?  What worked well?  What do I want to say in 2009 about how 2008 went for me? Creating Your Dreams Workbook.

You are the expert in your life:  did you have fun?

Livestock are a leading source of greenhouse gases. Why isn't anyone raising a stink?
October 15, 2007

"Killer Cow Emissions"

It's a silent but deadly source of greenhouse gases that contributes more to global warming than the entire world transportation sector, yet politicians almost never discuss it, and environmental lobbyists and other green activist groups seem unaware of its existence.

That may be because it's tough to take cow flatulence seriously. But livestock emissions are no joke.

Most of the national debate about global warming centers on carbon dioxide, the world's most abundant greenhouse gas, and its major sources -- fossil fuels. Seldom mentioned is that cows and other ruminants, such as sheep and goats, are walking gas factories that take in fodder and put out methane and nitrous oxide, two greenhouse gases that are far more efficient at trapping heat than carbon dioxide. Methane, with 21 times the warming potential of CO2, comes from both ends of a cow, but mostly the front. Frat boys have nothing on bovines, as it's estimated that a single cow can belch out anywhere from 25 to 130 gallons of methane a day.

It isn't just the gas they pass that makes livestock troublesome. A report from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization identified livestock as one of the two or three top contributors to the world's most serious environmental problems, including water pollution and species loss. In terms of climate change, livestock are a threat not only because of the gases coming from their stomachs and manure but because of deforestation, as land is cleared to make way for pastures, and the amount of energy needed to produce the crops that feed the animals.

All told, livestock are responsible for 18% of greenhouse-gas emissions worldwide, according to the U.N. -- more than all the planes, trains and automobiles on the planet. And it's going to get a lot worse. As living standards rise in the developing world, so does its fondness for meat and dairy. Annual per-capita meat consumption in developing countries doubled from 31 pounds in 1980 to 62 pounds in 2002, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization, which expects global meat production to more than double by 2050. That means the environmental damage of ranching would have to be cut in half just to keep emissions at their current, dangerous level.

It isn't enough to improve mileage standards or crack down on diesel truck emissions, as politicians at both the state and national levels are working to do. Eventually, the United States and other countries are going to have to clean up their agricultural practices, while consumers can do their part by cutting back on red meat.
A University of Chicago study examined the average American diet and found that all the various energy inputs and livestock emissions involved in its production pump an extra 1.5 tons of CO2 into the air over the course of a year, which would be avoided by a vegetarian diet. Thus, the researchers found, cutting out meat would do more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions than trading in a gas guzzler for a hybrid car.

I Listen and  I Recieve
This season, take a moment each hour to

Listen with your eyes.

Take in everything without judging it for content or style.  Just "grok" it.
During your interactions today you might want to pay attention to the amount of time you spend talking, particularly about yourself.
Often when we talk to others we are already planning what we want to say in response to what they are talking about.  It's an act of trust to give up your well-planned words, but unless we give them up it means that our focus is on us and not on what is being said. Paying attention to everything we hear, however, allows us to really connect to another person and will always take the conversation to the heart space.

 Allow yourself to receive.

There is intelligence in the Life Force in everything.   Allow yourself to tap into the assistance, the giving and grace around you, from seen and unseen sources.  Ask for assistance and receive it.

When you ask your friends, family members and even strangers for help, they feel needed and appreciated, and your inner self is nurutured.

By receiving, you are actually giving a gift that says, "I value you, you are capable, your gift to me is a powerful statement of your abilities, your sharing and I love you."
Make it a point to receive.

When we recieve and can allow ourselves to be worthy of all the beauty that is in and around us, we allow others to fully recieve the gifts we give and the gift we are. How can you recieve someone's gift today?

Thank you.  Thank you.

"...so often people are afraid to be grateful because they think that will be all they ever get... there is the perception that" if I'm unhappy with with I have, then I can get something different, but if I'm happy and even grateful for what I have, then I'm stuck with it forever.

But the truth is exactly opposite, the more grateful you are for what you have, the more it all grows."
